Virtual Orangery
I am pleased to have been commissioned recently by Beam, Wakefield, to produce a new work for their ‘Virtual Orangery’ project. The work will be available to view online soon, but first it launches in the physical space of the real Orangery. Details below.
Starts: March 26 2014 6:30pm
Ends: March 26 2014 9:00pm
Where: the Orangery, Back Lane, Wakefield, WF1 2TG
You are warmly invited to a Reception to launch ‘The Virtual Orangery’ website and a series of new virtual commissions coinciding with the Wakefield Art Walk.
The new website includes a series of specially-commissioned online artworks in which artists have been asked to respond to the Grade II listed Orangery and its surroundings. Their work will be hosted online in a computer-generated model of the site.
The artworks include short videos by Maurice Carlin of the building and its grounds that have in turn elicited responses from the YouTube community; Giles Bailey has created a dystopian narrative of a lone protagonist in an unpopulated world; Amelia Crouch has explored language and spatial perception; and Juliet Davis and Amy Lawrence have filmed a set of site-responsive, spontaneously choreographed actions. To find out more about the artists and their work click here (PDF download).
The Reception includes short introductions to the work by Beam and the artists, as well as free refreshments.
The artists’ work will be projected throughout the Art Walk evening until 9pm.
